Customer story: Tormets

Tormets is an industrial expert company based in Tornio, Finland, delivering demanding maintenance and machine shop services primarily to the mining and steel industries. The business is project-based, and quotations are often built on extensive, highly detailed order data. Tormets recognized that the speed and efficiency of the quotation process are key competitive factors.

Starting point: pricing was done manually

Customers typically submit requests for quotations to Tormets in Excel format. The data can include hundreds of rows of technical items, quantities, and specifications – and each customer uses their own structure and logic.

In practice, this meant that Tormets' experts had to manually process and input the data into the company's own pricing template. The work was slow, prone to errors, and took a significant amount of time away from actual pricing and customer-facing work. Tormets recognized that the current operating model did not scale and did not support their goals for growth and efficiency.

Tormets wanted to find a solution that would be both technically sound and deliver clear business impact – without requiring heavy system overhauls.

The development focus was quickly identified

During the AI1000 workshop, Tormets and Innofactor brought together business needs, technical constraints, and development potential. During the workshop, pricing automation was clearly identified as the use case with the greatest potential impact – a process where AI could genuinely accelerate work and improve quality.

The workshop created a shared vision of the objectives and served as the starting point for a concrete proof-of-concept (PoC). The solution was built using a phased MVP approach. Tormets was responsible for defining and prioritizing business requirements, while Innofactor's Solutions AI team contributed technical implementation and expertise in designing AI solutions.

"The PoC made it concrete how routine pricing can be automated in a controlled way."

Clear benefits and a strong foundation for further development

The pilot demonstrated that AI can significantly reduce manual pricing work and support experts in their decision-making. At the same time, Tormets gained a concrete understanding of how AI solutions should be developed in a controlled and business-driven way going forward.

Tormets' approach to AI illustrates how technology is best leveraged – starting from business needs, through experimentation and continuous learning. Innofactor acted as a partner, ensuring that the pilot was technically sound, secure, and genuinely supportive of Tormets' day-to-day operations.

Together, Tormets and Innofactor established a foundation for more intelligent and efficient pricing – step by step, with a business-first mindset.

Key benefits achieved

  • Reduction in manual pricing work due to the AI-supported quotation process
  • More consistent and transparent pricing
  • The PoC provided a clear foundation for scaling automation in the quotation process
