Health Village has won the Outstanding ICT Achievement category in the HIMSS-Elsevier competition. The winner was announced today in Helsinki in the health technology conference HIMSS & Health 2.0

The HIMSS-Elsevier technology competition for digital healthcare seeks out and rewards ICT solutions that considerably improve patient care and solve hospitals' great challenges. In Finland, the healthcare sector should, with the resources it currently has, be capable of efficiently producing services for the growing and ageing population for decades to come. Health Village is the solution for this: the digital service has been designed by specialized medical treatment personnel, patients and IT experts. Patient participation is an important part of the model of development.

"Health Village is not just a technology platform, it is a unique project, where supporting operational change is the focal point," explains Visa Honkanen, Director of Strategic Development at Helsinki University Hospital, who picked up the prize from the mainstage of HIMSS, in front of an international audience.

"This is another wonderful acknowledgement of the innovative conceptualization of Health Village and the strong co-operation between health care professionals, patients and partner companies. The Health Village concept is applicable in any health care organization and can be duplicated for any patient group's use. We also strongly believe in the concept's functionality outside of Finland," says Innofactor's Antti Pohjolainen Vice President, Sales.

"From the beginning, we have worked as the main partner in the development of the Health Village technology platform and, with the effort of over 100 people, maintained it through the years," continues Innofactor's CEO Sami Ensio. "Due to its cloud-based nature, the technology can be opened quickly to Nordic specialized medical treatment organizations and we have signed a co-operation agreement with HUS about expanding the Health Village concept to other Nordic countries through us. We are committed to expanding the Health Village concept in the Nordic countries."

Health Village's competitors for the gold included Pohjola Hospital and Cambridge University Hospital.

What is Health Village?

Health Village is an online service that has been jointly developed by experts and patients. It provides information and support to all of the parties concerned: medical care for patients and tools for healthcare professionals. Virtual houses, the service channel MyPath, digital treatment services and Health Village PRO for professionals, all operate within the service.

Health Village facilitates independent data search, management of own data, self-care and making different self-care measurements. With the help of the digital services, the patient receives more psychological and encompassing support than before. The professional receives support for their decision-making when the patient generates self-monitoring information and symptom evaluations.

In 2019, there were already 32 open houses. Health Village is jointly maintained and developed by Finland's University Hospitals.
